You have the chance to admire an emplacement from the Second World War that is located over the beach. Staying on the beach until late is not permitted in many parts as it is protected from the National Marine Park.
The endangered Caretta Caretta turtles choose Kalamaki beach to lay their eggs and thus it is forbidden to stick umbrellas in some parts that are marked as nesting areas. This is also the reason there are no crowded beach bars or other shops right on the beach.
